Own & Local Goes National

A Guest Post From Michael It was a great achievement last Tuesday when Welbeck farm shop was awarded the trophy for ‘Best Own & Local’ We are very proud of the products that we make in store. The producers at Welbeck and the community of local producers that supply us are excellent! I wish the whole team could have been at the awards. The farm shop is a team effort and always will be. We … Continue reading

The Winning Recipe & A Huge Congratulations!

Thank you for your votes in my ‘What should I bake?’ dilemma. I have counted them and I have to say I think some of you are being mean. I have counted both votes for those of you that sneakily voted for two recipes as I wasn’t sure which one to count. The votes were very wide spread, which is good as it means I can bake a few of the recipes over the coming … Continue reading

Baking 50′s & 60′s Style

I have been having lots of fun searching through Mrs. Marson‘s recipes trying to decide what to bake next. I came across some fabulous magazine pull outs from Woman. One was from 1956 and one was from 1960. I really enjoyed looking through them. The advertisements and the slogans made me smile and although they were very dated and a little sexist I thought that I would share one of them with you. How times … Continue reading

Choosing Christmas Cheese

Last week Michael went to select special batches of Stichelton to be sold in the shop over Christmas. Michael says that he goes to Stichelton to choose the best cheeses but I think that he enjoys the tasting! Joe ironed a selection of Stichelton for Michael to try. He also recommended his favourite batches. Having the new cheese room at the shop allows more storage and the cheese that Michael selected is already on display … Continue reading

Christmas Art & Food Market

The annual Art & Food Market will be held this weekend. This year there will be a special Art preview on Friday from 2pm-7pm and the Art & Food Market market will be open Saturday 10am-5pm & Sunday 10am-4pm. It is the perfect place to pick up some special Christmas gifts or a wonderful pre Christmas treat for yourself. Here are some of the photos that I took at last year’s event. Photographs 1) Apple … Continue reading

A Visit To Stichelton Dairy

Last week I went to visit Stichelton Dairy. I have never been before and it was great to see behind the scenes! I had to wear a very fetching outfit before I was allowed in as they follow very strict hygiene controls. I have never seen so much cheese in my life! The cheese doesn’t leave the diary until at least 12 weeks after it has been made. It is stored according to age and … Continue reading

Awards Season

In February the shop was delighted to be awarded a Farma award for best on farm butchery. It was great for them to be recognised for all of their hard work. It is awards season again and this year they have been overwhelmed by the nominations and the awards that they have received. Today the winners of the Observer Food Monthly awards have been announced and Welbeck Farm Shop is a runner up in the … Continue reading

A Room With A View

At the end of the month the shop entrance is having a makeover. Boutique Aromatique has moved into the shop itself and installed a patisserie counter. I can personally recommend the quiches, they are delicious! Being installed in the entrance area are two maturation rooms, one for the curing of bacon and hams and the other for maturing cheese. The bacon that is cured on the premises has become very popular and has outgrown the … Continue reading

Any Excuse For A Picnic

Michael and I enjoy having indoor picnics. It is an alternative to going out for a meal as, since our daughter came along, we don’t have much free time. You can also have an indoor picnic whatever the weather which is handy living in England. The shop has recently started having a tasting panel to taste any new products. The panel tried some new preserves recently and thought they were delicious! This seemed like a … Continue reading

Made At Welbeck Event

Last Saturday saw the first Made At Welbeck event.┬áIt went really well! It was great to see all the Welbeck Producers together. Welbeck Bakehouse, Stichelton, Annette’s Cakes and Dukeries Garden Centre were there selling their fabulous products and there was a bar serving Welbeck Abbey Brewery‘s real ales. There was also a BBQ provided by the Limehouse Cafe. The Harley Gallery Artist Studios were open to the public and The Bodging Project held furniture making … Continue reading
